The RWC English Department is now accepting entries for its second annual Songwriting Contest.

This contest is open to all college and high school students in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Area. Applicants are free to choose to write their songs using any theme, subject, or style.

The songs, however, will be judged anonymously by RWC faculty for the quality of lyrics, music, and relationship between the two. Participants are able submit a maximum of three songs, which can be performed by the songwriter or another group. Songs submitted must be in both recorded form (CD or Cassette tape only) and type written for the lyrics.

Submissions must also include on a separate sheet of paper the song's title, the writer's name, address, phone number, email address (If applicable), and school or university currently attended.

The deadline for submission is March 31, 2008. The winners will be announced in mid-April and will be invited to perform their work on April 28 from 7-9 p.m., as a part of the RWC Poetry Cafe. A 1st Prize and two Honorable Mentions will be awarded. Winning lyrics will be published in the Blue Ash Review, the college literary magazine.

Submission packages should be addressed to Professor Rhonda Pettit, Department of English and Communication, UC Raymond Walters College, 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash, Ohio 45236.

For more information, contact Professor Pettit at
